Wintec’s Trades and Engineering Facility wins award

The quality of public buildings in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty was recognised on Friday 1 May 2015 at the NZIAs regional architecture awards.

The Wintec Engineering and Trades Facility was Awarded two NZIA Local Architecture Awards on Friday night –  winning the Education Category and a Resene Colour Award.

The facility also won the Education Project category and was awarded a gold medal at the New Zealand Commercial Project Awards held on May 8 in Auckland. The award winners – which are selected by the Registered Master Builders Association – represent the best of New Zealand’s commercial property sector.

Wintec’s new Engineering & Trades Facility, project managed by Greenstone Group and designed by Chow Hill Architects, is a new home for 1,000 students is “not just a place to go and learn; it is an integrated part of the learning experience,” said the NZIA jury.  The building, designed with its services and structural systems left on display, is a vital tool for aiding student understanding of a working building.
