Ideas
Located in the vibrant Karangahape Road area of the Auckland CBD, this project consisted of ground floor retail, 48 luxury serviced apartments over eight levels, and four levels of basement parking. The building’s position on the ridge of Karangahape Road provides panoramic views across Auckland for most of the apartments. Myers Park also offers pleasant pedestrian access to Queen Street from the rear of the building.
Transformation
A number of factors made this project more complicated than most. The adjacent historical Pitt Street Methodist Church had to be protected while the Chatham Apartments building was excavated and constructed. Physical protection was required, as well as reporting on groundwater levels, ground and structure movement and vibration.
Through careful strategy and planning, Greenstone Group were able to successfully manage this project, ensuring that the finished product was of the highest quality while retaining the historical relevance of the structure. The original facade, dating to around 1900, remains intact, with timber shopfronts designed to integrate with the original architecture.
Reality
Working with leading architecture firm Ashton Mitchell, Greenstone produced a contemporary building that reflects the heritage of its neighbours. Made from high quality, durable materials, it will continue to tell the story of this area for years to come.
Private terraces, natural light and courtyard space are features that make the Chatham Apartments building spacious and airy, reflecting the character of New York apartments. As well as project and development services, Greenstone Group also performed leasing management, tenancy coordination and settlement management on this project.
